Chemical Dosing Security
Galliford Try has provided Scottish Water / Scottish Water Services with end-to-end solutions for security since 2004. We have been involved from the initial Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) build up to the final output claim and acceptance from the Water Industry Commission (WIC) and Drinking Water Quality Regulator (DWQR).
Scottish Water was required to bring all of the secondary chemical dosing sites - sites that are located out with the site boundary of a water treatment works which dose chemicals into the treated water main - into compliance with Government security advice notes. All sites, as a minimum, were to be fitted with monitored dual technology alarm system capable of detecting the opening of the housing containing the chemical dosing equipment and liquid chemicals.
The scope of the project included:
Planning and Design
- Clear programme requirements with defined milestones and drivers.
- CAPEX governance process and change control.
- Products development and market research.
- Communications plan delivery to operations departments.
- All surveys and workpacks produced agreed with operations / security and key stakeholders.
- Scheduled interface with existing programs and WIC drivers (water framework directive / flooding etc).
Construction
- Multi-disciplined team co-ordination to include alarm installations, civils, electrical works and physical security measures.
- Access transfers process and co-ordination with permit to work system led to zero incidents.
- Rigid two week look-ahead program issued on a weekly basis.
- Method statement / risk assessment approval process and rigid quality assurance and health, safety and environmental policies.
- Incorporation of the new systems into a “live” flight desk control centre.
- Zero impact to site operation during works on treatment critical process.
Commissioning
- Completion of user acceptance and training plans.
- Asset planner and Scottish Water security staff acceptance and signoff.
- O&M manual and training file compliance.
- Maintenance schedule program produced.
