Ben Aketil Wind Farm

This project involved the design and construction of the civil infrastructure works for a ten 2MW turbine wind farm built at an altitude of approximately 300m. Morrison Construction was initially appointed under a consultancy agreement direct to the wind farm developer, Falck Renewables, to gain road construction consents, CAR licenses/registrations and consult with local authority planners, SEPA, SNH and other statutory and third parties to close out all planning conditions prior to construction.

The works included a new public road junction; operation of an on-site borrow pit; 6km of new tracks; a bridge crossing; construction of circular reinforced concrete turbine bases to Enercon design (single pour size 375 cubic metres); hardstandings for a 400tonne erection crane; compound area for the control building; trenching for cables and final reinstatement works.

A batching plant was erected in the borrow pit and sand and aggregates imported to supply concrete for the project. Responsibilities included the role of principal contractor throughout our period on site.
