Woodside Landfill

The Woodside Landfill site is situated in Elgin, adjacent to the River Lossie. The site had been disused for 20 years and concerns regarding landfill leachate reaching the river were addressed by an engineering solution.

The Moray Council commissioned remedial works to control the leachate and transform the site into a public amenity area.

Morrison Construction was awarded the contract to construct the works, which were successfully completed in 2007.

The scope of works included:

  • Site clearance, management of Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed
  • Excavation and placement of landfill materials to reduced levels
  • Installation of geogrids, geotextiles and erosion control works
  • Construction of leachate control drainage system
  • Construction of footpaths and landscaping
