Banff Harbour

Banff Harbour, a former fishing port is over 150 years old. The quayside, which includes a breakwater constructed by Thomas Telford, is listed by Historic Scotland as a "Category A" structure. The objective of this project was to transform the harbour area into a modern serviced marina.

To achieve this the two inner harbour basins, which previously dried out at low tide, were excavated to provide a minimum water depth ranging from 1.5 - 2.6m at low water accommodating a range of vessels.

A fully serviced pontoon system was installed, enabling the harbour to provide water, electricity and safe, secure berthing for yachts and powered vessels in a traditional harbour setting.

Temporary works to facilitate construction included a coffer dam at the harbour entrance which combined with dewatering pumps permitted bulk excavations to be carried out in dry conditions.

The works were completed on programme and the new marina has already proved to be a successful and popular facility.
