New Bransfield House, Rothera
Morrison Construction were required to construct a new welfare building to provide life support services at the heart of the Rothera Research facility, allowing for the linking of the building to other possible future developments.
The steel framed building is clad with thermally efficient structural insulated panels (SIPs). This will maximise the energy efficiency and minimise the running costs. The use of a steel frame with a lightweight concrete flooring system will allow full internal flexibility of layout enabling the building to be easily adapted to meet future requirements.
Snow modelling and innovative design will provide a building that will lessen the impact of snow drifting and minimise the resources needed to maintain access throughout the year.
Client: British Antarctic Survey
