This section of the A429 is used extensively by HGV vehicles on route to the large distribution centres located in and around Wellesbourne. Together with other traffic the road currently accommodates approximately 13,000 vehicles per day. The condition of the existing Grade 2 listed Barford Bridge is currently deteriorating as a result of the HGV use and it is considered the structure would require major maintenance in the near future to maintain the fabric of the bridge.
Developed by Galliford Try, Barford Bypass is to be 2.1 km of single carriageway 7.3 m wide formed on new embankments with widening at Northern and Southern junctions to accommodate right turn lanes. Included in the scheme will be a four span viaduct and a series of flood culverts where the bypass crosses the River Avon and flood plain.
In order to mitigate the environmental impact of the scheme on the surrounding area the scheme will accommodate the following:
Installation of acoustic fencing
Construction of strategically located environmental mounds
Extensive Landscaping
Construction of plateaued flood compensation area and surface water retention pond
Improvements and extensions to existing ditches.
Restriction to permitted routes for construction traffic in the surrounding area
Client: Warwickshire County Council
