This flood alleviation scheme in Hereford was designed to reduce the risk of flooding to the Belmont area by the construction of approximately 1km of flood defence walls and embankments along the south side of the River Wye from Greyfriars Bridge to the south east corner of King George’s Field.
Mirroring the line of existing boundary walls, the walls and embankments are designed to blend into the local area. Walls comprise in-situ reinforced concrete or sheet pile construction with brick, stone or timber facing. Sections of the in-situ reinforced concrete possess piled foundations. Access steps and wheelchair/bike friendly ramps are provided over the defence at strategic points.
