Woking Data Centre

This project entailed the reconditioning of the existing 12, 000 sq ft floor of a telephone exchange to create a data centre incorporating; an uninterruptible power supply room, staff welfare facilities, and 4,000 sq ft of data equipment room as well as circulation space for data hall peripheral activities.

The enabling works called for the demolition and removal of existing partition walls, ceilings, raised access floors and all associated fixture and fittings. New partition walls, flooring and ceilings were then installed along with new security doors. Kitchen and WC facilities were also fitted.

Mechanical and electrical works included the provision of a backup generator and diesel storage tank, uninterruptible power supply systems, the upgrade of the incoming high voltage mains to the building by the regional electrical company, mains and sub main distribution, interior and emergency lighting, fire detection and suppressions systems, cooling systems and security systems, intruder alarm and access control.

Other works included the installation of raised access flooring (incorporating vent grills and cable access), ramps and cable containment for AC electrical, DC electrical, copper and fibre comms cabling.

An early occupation was built into the programme to allow the fitting of server racks by the client’s rack suppliers. The work was subsequently completed ahead of schedule in 20 weeks.
