Packet Data Switch Centre Upgrade

  

BT selected Galliford Try to carry out substantial upgrade work in an existing live data centre environment.

The programme of upgrade work included:

  • The relocation of existing working equipment and the provision of a further 50 rack spaces (1,000 sq ft) and associated infrastructure.
     
  • The upgrade of the room structure for increased security, including enhancing existing electronic security system (vibration and PIR sensors etc), reinforcing walls, grills, doors etc.

Acting as both principal contractor and Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) designer, Galliford Try had total responsibility for:

  • All M&E design, installation and commissioning; air conditioning upgrade, electrical power distribution (AC), fire detection, security alarm system, lighting and the provision of a new UPS DC island providing N+1 unit and configured in a dual parallel redundant configuration.
     
  • Underfloor containment for electrical, optical and copper cabling for inter-suite connectivity and access to distribution frames.
     
  •  Providing the project management (including full time site supervision), covering all aspects of CDM, ensuring that no customer data was lost, and delivering the project on time and to budget.
