Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Phase III
The works involved the demolition of the existing hospital buildings (replaced by a new hospital facility during Phases I and II of the contract), construction of two new car parks, associated infrastructure works, multiple service diversions and extensive hard and soft landscaping works. A new entrance to the hospital was also constructed from the adjacent main road under a Section 278 adoption agreement.
The new car parks were constructed almost entirely from permeable block paving, thus allowing rain water to soak away through the car park and underlying drainage blanket. Oversize surface water drainage systems were constructed, allowing any collected surface water to be effectively stored and released to the sewer network in a controlled manner.
All demolition and construction works were carried out whilst maintaining a working hospital facility and all associated on site car parking for staff, patients and vistors.
