We consider the provision of relevant health, safety and environmental training to our employees a fundamental element in ensuring that we maintain our high performance standards. We utilise a number of processes to ensure that our employees, as well as those that work on our behalf, are technically competent, and as an Major Contractors Group member, we fully support the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme and are recognised as an industry leading performer in this area.
Galliford Try has a proven commitment to the training and development of its staff. Health, Safety and Environmental training, in meeting the requirements of our health and safety training matrix, formulates a major part of the annual training budgets within the Company.
All members of staff receive full company induction training during the initial period of their employment which covers the full range of tasks which they are likely to encounter, and aims to instil the values of the company and the importance of health, safety and environment as a business priority. This is supplemented by a full Health, Safety and Environmental training course, which is regularly updated in accordance with legislation and examples of best practice. In addition, we provide an IEMA accredited internal environmental awareness training course to our employees together with other internal environmental training courses e.g. a one day waste management course.
Site based members of operational staff undertake a 5-Day Safety Management course, in order to get all personnel to a minimum accepted level of safety knowledge and experience. In addition, foremen and engineering staff undertake further supervisory courses as appropriate including roads and streetworks, scaffolding appreciation, safety netting, confined spaces, COSHH training, risk assessment training, first aid and three day “Appointed Persons” courses for heavy lifting.
Our supply chain members undergo pre-qualification checks for their own level of training and competency, and must satisfy Galliford Try of minimum standards required before being allowed to operate on site.
