Health & Safety
We are committed to a policy of effectively managing all aspects of health, safety and welfare. We maintain our fundamental belief that everyone has the right to return home unharmed at the end of each and every working day.

The focus for 2011/2012 remains primarily on our ongoing Safety Leadership Programme "Challenging Beliefs, Affecting Behaviour". This is on the basis that significant progress in the Groups beliefs can only be made through the move to a culture where care of our fellow workers comes as second-nature, where we are unwilling to accept unsafe practise in any circumstance, and where the belief that all accidents are preventable prevails.
Over 400 of the Divisional leaders of the Group, from Executive Board down, have completed the Senior Management Leadership Workshop. Following on from that we have now, to date, put an additional 3,000 operational managers through the Operational Management Workshop.
Moving forward we aim to instil our beliefs and values in relation to health, safety and environment to our site operational staff, both employees and contractors alike. This is to be achieved by the development of on-site forums and a coaching role throughout 2011/12, that will see more frontline supervisors proactively intervening on positive and negative site behaviours; and educating the operational personnel as to the importance of continual vigilance and commitment in health and safety on site.
