When undertaking the refurbishment of an occupied multi storey block of flats (120 homes) at Queen's Court in Newcastle, our Resident Liaision Officer was approached by a number of residents who shared concerns for their neighbour Marie. Marie had recently suffered a mild stroke and her neighbours informed us that she would be returning home from the hospital at the same time that works were due to commence in her home. We subsequently looked at ways in which we could minimise any disruption to her and the site manager established that her stay in care provided just enough of a window to replace her bathroom and install a walk-in shower and new kitchen worktops before her return home. Marie was consquently thrilled with the result and enjoyed her move back home.
